La Macana

When did you last treat yourselves?

An 18th-century manor house in the heart of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, with vineyards as far as the eye can see and the castle of San Vicente peeking out from the roof terrace.

A place to stop, breathe, share a bottle of wine and enjoy the people you love most.

Welcome to La Macana.
Here, only good moments.

La Macana is a fully restored 18th-century manor house, rented as a whole, in the heart of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.

We built it for people short on time, with a lot on their minds, and a need to get back to what matters: being together.

The 80 m² ground floor is the heart of the house. A fully equipped kitchen ruled by a big oak table, and a generous living room with a fireplace and a sofa handmade by local artisans.

A place to cook together, linger over a meal, open a bottle of wine, read by the fire, or simply let the afternoon drift by.

This is where meals linger, and no one's in a hurry to end them.

Sunrise light passes through the brick lattice and draws golden squares in a bedroom
The morning light comes in slowly, and changes everything.

Slowly.
With time.

Light filters through the brick lattice and draws a landscape on the walls that shifts with the hours.

Here, time slows down. You can hear the birds, and from the bay window the vineyards stretch out all the way to the Sierra de Cantabria.

The house has five double bedrooms, one of them with two single beds. Stone walls, oak furniture and honest materials make for warm, contemporary rooms.

Four bedrooms are on the first floor: two en suite, two sharing a bathroom. Upstairs, the suite, with its own bathroom, shares the top floor with a bright common room, a bay window open to the vineyard, and a roof terrace with views of the medieval castle.

And if you fancy an early start, wait for the sunrise. The sky fills with pinks, oranges and blues over the vineyard. It's one of those moments worth keeping.

Bedrooms made for sleeping, waking up, and losing track of time.

Pure slow living

Some places invite you to do things. Others invite you to do nothing at all.

La Macana is one of the second kind.

A coffee with no eye on the clock. A meal that runs long. A book. A glass of wine. A conversation that starts after dinner and ends much later.

We have a Smart TV, Spotify and Netflix. But we'd suggest leaving them off. There's plenty to enjoy, inside and out.

A space to share

On the top floor there is a bright, quiet, open-plan room, with a large oak bay window.

A space to start the day with some yoga, for the little ones to play freely, to read, to nap, or simply to be together without any rush.

The house's Smart TV lives here too, in case a film sounds good some evening.

And when you step out onto the roof terrace, one of those views that makes time stand still is waiting for you: the castle of San Vicente on its hill, close enough that you could almost touch it.

San Vicente de la Sonsierra and around

Ten minutes from Haro and its century-old wineries, and 25 minutes from Logroño's famous Calle Laurel, San Vicente de la Sonsierra is one of those places worth discovering slowly.

Wander its lanes and walled old town, climb up to the castle and take in the vineyard from the Torre Mayor — especially at sunset — visit the church of Santa María la Mayor, or cross its medieval bridge.

And there's much more nearby: the Romanesque hermitage of Santa María de la Piscina, next to its medieval necropolis; the rock-cut wine presses; the Cascaja dolmen; the settlement of La Nava; and the guardaviñas, the stone huts that dot the landscape.

Here, wine is part of the landscape, the history, and the way of life.
